People have lived in Ras Al Khaimah since the bronze age, making it one of the few places in the world to have continuously had settlers for over 7,000 years. History buffs can view archaeological finds in the National Museum of Ras Al Khaimah, and explore ancient forts like Dhayah fort, built in the 1500s, or have a go at traditional pastimes like falconry, archery and camel riding.
More conventional holiday activities are also on offer; Ras Al Khaimah is home to lots of expansive sandy beaches, so watersports are big news. The calm, clear waters of the Arabian Gulf lend themselves perfectly to sailing, waterskiing, jet-skiing and fishing. If you fancy a walk on the wild side, you can even go kayaking through the shady Mangrove swamps, or embark on a guided hiking adventure in the nearby mountains.
Over the last few years, more luxury beachfront resorts and excellent new leisure facilities (like the world's longest zipline at Jebel Jais and the RAK Track go-karting track) have opened. All of our featured hotels in Ras Al Khaimah have been stylishly designed, with the mod-cons and first-rate facilities you'd expect at a five-star UAE resort.

Things to do in Ras Al Khaimah - The Highlights
Best time to visit Ras Al Khaimah
Weather in Ras Al Khaimah
Like its neighbours Abu Dhabi and Dubai, the winter months are the best time to visit Ras Al Khaimah. Temperatures are pleasant November - April, with average highs of 26°C. Temperatures regularly top 40°C from May - September, so these months are for true sun-worshippers.
Winter is the most popular (and expensive) time of year to visit Ras Al Khaimah. Temperatures in the summer months can be extreme, but it's possible to pick up some excellent deals, with hotels offering up to 60% off normal prices, if you're happy to stick to predominantly indoor activities or spend your time cooling off in the hotels' chilled pool.

Dining in Ras Al Khaimah
Most of the best restaurants can be found at the areas' five-star hotels. The Lexington Grill at the Waldorf Astoria Ras Al Khaimah hotel is particularly highly rated, known for its succulent steaks and attentive service. It's reportedly the only place in the UAE where you can get a dry-aged steak, which is probably the reason it knocks the socks off the competition.
Where to stay in Ras Al Khaimah
Marjan Island
Al Marjan is a series of four interconnected man-made islands. Here you'll find two of the most popular hotels in Ras Al Khaimah, the Rixos Bab Al Bahr and the Doubletree by Hilton Resort & Spa Marjan Island - both of which offer all-inclusive packages. The main reasons for choosing to stay in this area are the expansive beaches and the large all-singing, all-dancing hotels.
Al Hamra
Al Hamra is right on the beach, but also has an excellent 18-hole championship golf course close by. To combat the summer heat, the course is floodlit with late tee off times, so you can perfect your putting after dark when it's cooler. There's easy access to Al Hamra Mall (which isn't huge, but a pleasant place to spend an afternoon browsing the shops), and RAK Track, a new karting complex. The Junior Suites at Waldorf Astoria Ras Al Khaimah are particularly nice (well worth the upgrade!).
