The Datai Langkawi

Discover this legendary hotel – tucked away deep within Malaysia’s 10-million-year-old rainforest. It’s only 40 minutes from Langkawi International Airport, but its captivating jungle setting means you’ll feel a world away. It benefitted from a total refurbishment in 2018.

The atmosphere at The Datai Langkawi is peaceful and serene. The resort has been designed to help you escape day-to-day life and reconnect with nature. The surrounding rainforest accommodates a wealth of wildlife, including monkeys, geckos and flying lemurs. Activities like guided rainforest walks and kayaking through the mangroves are led by the hotel’s resident naturalist and marine biologist.

The Datai’s beach is particularly noteworthy, too. A private footpath leads to the talcum-soft sands of Datai Bay, voted one of the world’s Top 10 Beaches by National Geographic.

The food is another of the highlights here. There are four restaurants and two bars, including The Gulai House, which serves authentic Malaysian fare; The Pavilion, which appears to float within the canopies set atop 30-metre slits serving exceptional Thai cuisine; The Beach Club, best for light bites and the catch of the day; and The Dining Room, a fine-dining experience.

This place takes wellness seriously. The sumptuous spa is found by following a leafy trail through the mangroves, and draws on the natural resources of the rainforest for treatment inspiration. A holistic approach is taken, with a meditation pavilion, yoga, pilates and walks along forest trails working their restorative wonders. You can also take part in cooking classes, picking produce from the hotel’s organic garden and whipping up delectable dishes with the help of the head chef.

If you’re into golf, we challenge you to find a more spectacular setting for a round. The 18-hole course at The Datai was designed by pro player Ernie Els, with the towering Machinchang Mountains providing a striking backdrop.

There are 121 rooms in all, which are classified by location. The Canopy Collection are in the main building. The Rainforest Collection are hidden amongst the foliage along the stream. The Beach Collection lead directly onto the white sands of Datai Bay.

Families are welcome: there are children's menus in the restaurants, a family pool, plus ‘edutainment’ activities in the Nature Centre. The Dining Room restaurant is reserved for over 16s.

With friendly service, luxurious accommodations and unrivalled experiences throughout, holidays spent at The Datai Langkawi are utterly unforgettable.
