Being close to the Equator, temperatures in Sri Lanka rarely dip below 30C. The island is affected by the southwest monsoon which brings the rainy season to the west coast, south coast and interior mainly from May to July and the northeast monsoon which brings rains in the north and east in December and January. The sun shines most of the time in Sri Lanka even during the rainy season.
