Abu Dhabi Travel Guide
Abu Dhabi is the cultural (and actual) capital of the UAE. Guaranteed sunshine, excellent beaches, classy resorts and numerous attractions - plus a relatively short flight time - all add up to make Abu Dhabi holidays increasingly popular.
Blending new and old, Abu Dhabi is brimming with 21st-century culture in the form of magnificent museums designed by superstar architects, as well as having a deep-rooted past dating back to the stone age.
Today, glitzy malls, futuristic hotels and artistic skyscrapers take centre stage. Dig deeper, and you'll uncover evidence of the city's rich heritage: ancient forts, bustling markets and souks, traditional dhows and even a UNESCO World Heritage Site at Al Ain.

Things to do in Abu Dhabi - The Highlights
There's so much to see and do: admire the art at the Louvre Abu Dhabi; visit the stunning Qasr Al Watan; see the city from the observation deck at the top of Conrad Abu Dhabi Etihad Towers; race down the world's first hydro-magnetic tornado waterslide (as hair-raising as it sounds) at Yas Waterworld Abu Dhabi; dine at a Michelin-starred restaurant or spend an evening aboard a catamaran, witnessing the sun setting over Emirates Palace and the beautiful city skyline.
A holiday to Abu Dhabi wouldn't be complete without a trip to the desert. Known as the Empty Quarter, it's the largest expanse of sand in the world - made famous when the Star Wars franchise chose it as one of the filming locations for the Force Awakens movie. Go off-roading through the dunes, try sand-boarding, fat-wheeled biking or watch a falconry display, before ending the day with an Arabian feast under the stars.

Weather in Abu Dhabi
The best time to visit Abu Dhabi is from November - March. The heat can be relentless in summer, with high humidity and temperatures soaring to 40 °C and beyond. During winter, temperatures pleasantly hover around the mid-20s, making Abu Dhabi an excellent choice for a dose of winter sun.
June - September is the cheapest time to visit. It will be hot - but you can pick up incredible deals on Abu Dhabi holidays during the summer - so long as you're happy to stick to air-conditioned activities or take regular dips in the hotel's chilled pool to keep cool.
It's also possible to find a great value holiday when hotels cut prices during Ramadan, although if you choose to travel during this period you'll need to be respectful and not eat or drink (even water) outside the hotel grounds during daylight hours.
The Formula 1 Abu Dhabi Grand Prix occurs in November, so unless you're a motorsport fan avoid visiting over the race weekend as prices will spike!

Where to stay in Abu Dhabi
Saadiyat Island
Saadiyat Island is Abu Dhabi's premier beach destination. Home to some of the finest five-star resorts in the emirate including St Regis Saadiyat Island Resort
and Jumeirah Saadiyat Island, it also boasts the best beach in the region. Because it's a natural island, the sand is very soft and the water is a vibrant shade of turquoise. Time it right, and you could even witness the unforgettable moment when endangered Hawksbill turtles begin to hatch and make their way to the sea. The beach is protected, meaning there's been minimum manmade intervention to the shoreline.
The city is only 5 minutes drive away, although you'd be forgiven for wanting to remain at the beach for your entire holiday given its outstanding beauty and amenities. There's a great golf course on the island next to St Regis Saadiyat Resort.

Corniche
This 4-mile long promenade is a favourite with both locals and tourists. On one side, you’ve got gleaming skyscrapers and on the other, beautiful sandy beaches. Stop for a photo op alongside a marvel of modern engineering, the Capital Gate (also known as the Leaning Tower of Abu Dhabi). You can walk along the corniche all the way to the marina, pausing for a picnic or a dip in the ocean along the way. Top hotels in the area include the magnificent Emirates Palace .
Yas Island
If you’re looking for action, Yas Island is the place to head. Highlights include the fab waterpark, with several world-first rides and a FlowRider surf system. Thrill seekers who'd rather stay dry can spend many a happy hour on the rides at Ferrari World Abu Dhabi and Warner Bros World TM Abu Dhabi. Both are located mostly indoors, meaning they can be enjoyed during even the hottest summer days. Challenge yourself at nearby CLYMB; home to the world’s biggest indoor climbing wall. Yas Island is also where you’ll find Abu Dhabi's iconic Formula 1 track, where you can go on a race driving experience. You can also walk, cycle or jog around it, pausing to ogle at the super yachts in the marina as you pass. As evening hits, hit the restaurants and clubs along the waterfront, or dance the night away at the UAE’s biggest nightlife venue, MAD on Yas Island. Stay at the iconic W Abu Dhabi for incredible views over the circuit and the marina.
