Corfu Holidays

Corfu Travel Guide

Holidays to Corfu team beautiful beaches and picturesque Mediterranean towns with purpose-built resorts and some of Greece's best nightlife.

Beaches

With over 200km of coastline, there's no shortage of lovely beaches in Corfu. Most of our Corfu hotels lie in the middle of the east coast, near a resort called Dassia. Fringed by olive trees, the pretty beach here is made up of shingles and pebbles, although it turns to sand when you reach the shallow water. Relaxed and friendly, Dassia holidays are all about making the most of the Blue Flag beach and clean, turquoise waters. Sunbathing and watersports top the to-do list - with snorkelling, water-skiing and windsurfing all on the cards. You can also hire a boat to tour the coastline.

Things to do in Corfu - The Highlights

Shopping

Twenty minutes south of Dassia, Corfu Town is the shopping capital of Corfu. Historically, Corfu has always excelled at jewellery design, and it's here you'll find the islands best collection of jewellery stores. Most have workshops attached, which is how they're able to produce such unique pieces. Wander through the little side streets of old town and take your pick from ornate Byzantine designs, or seek out something a little more modern. You'll also find artist studios, handmade leather goods, bakeries, and ceramic workshops - along with the more typical 'touristy' shops, which sell everything from olive soaps to t-shirts and Kumquat (a locally produced sweet liqueur). In Dassia itself, the coastal road in town is the place to go. There's a fab deli to stock up on provisions, and lots of shops selling beach essentials, t-shirts, handbags, and souvenirs.

Nightlife

There's something for everyone in Corfu - whether you prefer a laid-back evening sipping sundowners overlooking the beach, or would rather dance the night away in neon-lit nightclubs. The liveliest town on the island is Kavos, on the south coast - whilst the resort of Arillas on the north-west coast is very low key: evenings here revolve around sunset dinners and a quiet drink in the local taverna. For something in-between, Dassia is a good bet. Just the right side of lively, it's home to lots of tavernas (including a traditional British pub, run by a Scottish couple!), as well as a handful of buzzing disco bars that'll keep you wide-eyed till dusk - if that's what you're looking for. Otherwise, there are plenty of authentic Greek restaurants overlooking the sea - and you'll also find some quiet coves along the coast for when you're in need of some chillout time.

Best time to visit Corfu

Weather in Corfu

Corfu has a long summer season, stretching from May to September. July and August are the hottest and most popular months to visit, where temperatures often top 29°C.

If you like it warm but not too hot, consider going in June or September when the temperature hovers around 25°C. This is also when hotels offer great deals on accommodation, outside of the school holidays.

Dining in Corfu

Corfu holidays provide the perfect opportunity to try some traditional Greek dishes. Local products dominate the menus in most restaurants, including meat, fish, olive oil, vegetables and cheese. Sofrito is a particular local favourite: veal steak gently simmered with garlic, wine and lashings of fresh herbs - served with pasta or potatoes. Rest assured that within the hotels you'll find restaurants serving food from all over the world, so if you fancy a break from Greek you'll be able to enjoy Italian, British, Asian Fusion, and French classics.

Where to stay in Corfu

Dassia

Dassia is a laid-back resort town on the east coast, popular with families and couples alike. It's close to Corfu Town (great for shopping) and also has a party-loving neighbour, Ipsos, where you'll find lots of bars that stay open late. During the day, the award-winning Blue Flag beach is the perfect place to relax, with clean, calm waters that lend themselves well to all the watersports on offer. It's good for children, too, as the water gets slowly deeper and you have to walk out pretty far before you find yourself at shoulder level. Away from the beach, there are mountain bike trails, golf courses, and horse rides to keep everyone happy. Stay at the Ikos Dassia, a new all-encompassing resort that boasts spectacular views across the Ionian coastline.
