Rhodes Travel Guide
Rhodes is the most visited of all the Greek islands, and most people come for the beaches. The east coast boasts an almost uninterrupted stretch of golden sand, and this where you'll find some of the most well-known resorts like pretty Lindos - and the fun-filled party town, Faliraki. There's also a selection of quieter resorts, like Lardos, which is home to a Blue Flag beach with warm, shallow waters - backed by cypress trees and picturesque olive groves.
On the north-west coast, the beaches are mostly shingle - but the waters are crystal clear and a favourite with watersports enthusiasts, particularly windsurfers. Plus - this side of the island gets the best sunsets. There are plenty of restaurants and bars along the coast where you can enjoy the view, but if you're looking for a bit more buzz, Rhodes Town is very close by. A historic medieval walled town, it sits right on the beach and is home to heaps of shops, restaurants, cocktail bars, and nightclubs. There's even a nearby waterpark to explore.

Things to do in Rhodes, Greece - The Highlights
Best time to visit Rhodes
Weather in Rhodes
Rhodes is the sunniest of all the Greek islands, seeing approximately 300 sunny days a year. Rhodes starts to warm up at Easter time, which is a good time to go if you enjoying sightseeing as temperatures are pleasant, but not too hot to walk around (although the sea will likely still be too cold for swimming at this time of year). If you're more of a beach-bod, it's probably best to wait until summer really arrives in June. Perfect sunbathing weather is almost guaranteed between June and September, with an average of 12 hours sunshine a day. July and August are the hottest and most popular months to visit when temperatures regularly peak past 30°C. Temperatures stay pleasant until mid-November, although it's worth noting that the rainy season starts mid-October.

Dining in Rhodes, Greece
As an island surrounded by ocean, seafood is naturally very popular in Rhodes. But don't worry, if grilled octopus isn't your thing, you'll still find plenty of international restaurants across the island serving more familiar fare. Prices for food and drink are pretty good when compared to the rest of Europe.
Traditionally, the locals eat out by sharing meze - which is essentially lots of small dishes with no set main course. It gives you the chance to try things you wouldn't necessarily order yourself, and is a great conversation starter (especially as most mezes are designed to complement whichever alcoholic drink is being served at the time).

Where to stay in Rhodes, Greece
Lardos Beach
Lardos, in the middle of the east coast, has a nice, old-fashioned village type feel, thanks to the village square lined by cypress trees, complete with a church and fountain. The beach at Lardos is widely regarded as one of the island's best. The water is calm and gradually gets deeper, so it's ideal for children. Perfect for sunbathing, the beachfront is lined with bars and cafes where you can stock up on refreshments, as well as having access to all sorts of watersports. From the jetty, you can hop on a glass-bottomed boat to see the underwater sights. There's even a go-kart track nearby. If you fancy a change of scenery, you can also catch a boat to nearby Lindos from the beach. Lindos is one of the prettiest villages in Rhodes, home to the famous Acropolis on top of the hill - and vehicle-free. Stay at the Lindian Village in Lardos, a luxurious five-star property right on the beach, which features a choice of swimming pools, five restaurants, and a very swanky spa.
Lalissos Bay
Lalissos sits on the north-west coast of Rhodes. It's home to some impressive ancient ruins, as well as lots of modern hotels, bars, restaurants, and a 3km stretch of beach. It's a fab windsurfing spot, which is also good news for sunbathers - as the breeze keeps you cool during the scorching summer months. Nearby you've got the capital city, Rhodes Town (roughly 15 minutes drive away). Rhodes Town has everything from quaint cobbled streets and medieval castles, to designer boutiques, museums, and plenty of restaurants and bars. Of all the hotels in Lalissos, we recommend Electra Palace, a 4*+ art deco-style hotel right on the beach, with a lovely pool area and choice of restaurants.
