Tenerife Travel Guide
Tenerife holidays offer up year-round sunshine, large beaches, and bustling resort towns - all within short flight times from the UK. Tenerife has been much-loved by the Brits for decades; even Queen Victoria famously escaped here for a dose of sunshine back in the 1800s.
It's the largest of the Canary Islands, so you'll find plenty of things to do - whether you're looking for family-friendly attractions, pulsating nightlife, or sightseeing and adventure activities.
Tenerife Beaches
The most popular beaches and resorts are in the south, with many of the best Tenerife hotels lining the coastline here. Dotted with mainly four-star and five-star hotels, the beaches of Playa de las Americas, Costa Adeje, and Playa del Duque line up soft sands, emerald waters, water sports and cafe-lined promenades. After dark, the restaurants, bars, and nightclubs provide plenty of options to keep you dancing till dawn. Playa de las Americas is the island's best-loved nightlife destination, with everything from trendy wine bars to Irish pubs and throbbing clubs. Costa Adeje is a bit more low-key, but still has its fair share of classy cocktails bars, and hosts an annual music festival in April which sees visiting bands and DJs from all over the world.
Tenerife Sights
There's a lot more to holidays in Tenerife than the beaches, nightlife, and bars of the South. Head inland and you'll find Spain's highest peak - the dormant volcano of Mount Teide. There's a national park here, with lots of trails to explore (either on foot, or mountain bikes) through the pine forests. There's also a cable car that'll take you right to the peak for some truly spectacular views.
To the north, Tenerife's capital, Santa Cruz, offers excellent shopping, as well as a number of museums, art galleries, and an architectural gem in the Opera House on the waterfront. Tenerife is a duty-free island, so bargains are easy to find.
To the East, explore the rural beauty of the Anaga Mountains, the UNESCO heritage site of La Laguna (widely considered to be the island's most beautiful town) and the pretty cobblestone streets of La Orotava in the foothills of Mount Teide.
Tenerife Family Holidays
Kids will love a day out at Loro Parque Zoo - home to sea lions, tigers, parrots, gorillas and meerkats among other creatures. Another sure-fire hit is the Siam Park Waterpark, which has plenty of high-rise thrills for daredevils as well as the world's longest lazy river. It was recently rated the Best Water Park in the World on TripAdvisor.

Things to do in Tenerife - The Highlights
Best time to visit Tenerife
Tenerife Weather
Weather-wise, Tenerife makes a great year-round holiday destination. It's especially popular for winter sun holidays, as people flock to its sunny shores to escape the colder weather back home. You're almost guaranteed warm sunshine no matter which month you visit, although temperatures peak in the warmest months of July and August.
The winter months are cooler, with January and February occasionally seeing some rain. Most of our hotels are on the south and west coasts - which do tend to be warmer and drier than the north coast of the island - thanks to the dry winds which blow across the Atlantic from Africa.
If you love a good street party - visit in February. This is when the annual Carnaval celebration happens, the world's second biggest outside Brazil.
If you'd prefer to avoid the crowds yet still get the best of the weather, April - June, September - November are the best months to visit.

Dining in Tenerife
Tenerife is home to the best restaurants in the Canary Islands. At the Ritz Carlton Abama Hotel you'll find two Michelin-starred restaurants, including Kabuki, which serves a fusion of western and Japanese cuisine.
Alongside the beaches, you'll find promenades lined with no-frills cafes serving tasty, more affordable, fare - think pollo al ajillo (garlic chicken), fresh fish, seafood and other local favourites.
Tenerife's wine scene is also gaining an increasingly good reputation amongst those in the know. The island's fertile volcanic soils lend themselves well to vineyards, and Tenerife produces a range of distinctive award-winning red and white wines. Many vineyards offer wine-tasting tours, which is a great way to discover the local wine scene.
