Borneo Travel Guide
Borneo holidays are all about discovering secluded beaches, rugged jungles and exotic wildlife. An ideal destination for nature-lovers, Borneo's 130-million-year-old rainforest is one of just two places in the world where orangutans still live in the wild.
Jungle-trekking is high on the Borneo holiday must-do list. Mount Kinabalu is one of the major landmarks on this magnificent island. Reaching the summit is no easy feat, but you'll be rewarded with spectacular sunrise views at the summit.
Borneo is also home to swathes of unspoilt white-sandy beaches. Scuba divers flock to the crystal-clear waters of Sipadan Island, Malaysia's number one diving spot. Rich in marine life, it's home to a coral reef that has formed over thousands of years on an extinct underwater volcano. The best time to visit for optimal scuba diving conditions is between April - November.
Another natural highlight is Tunku Abdul Marine Park - a cluster of beautiful islands 15-20 minutes via speedboat from Kota Kinabalu. Come here for pristine beaches, excellent snorkelling and hiking trails around the islands. There's also an island-to-island zip line if you're feeling intrepid!
Whilst orangutans do still live wild in the jungles of Borneo, they're elusive creatures and your best chance of spotting them is at the Sepilok Orang-utan Rehabilitation Centre. Here you can witness these incredible apes swinging through the trees, and learn about their way of life and conservation efforts.
With a selection of five-star luxurious resorts across the island, Borneo is also a great destination for a fly-and-flop type holiday where relaxing in-resort is the top priority. High-end spas, state-of-the-art sports facilities and sumptuous swimming pools provide welcome relief from the midday sun, whilst in-resort restaurants and bars offer a variety of settings to enjoy a morning coffee, speciality cocktail or a delicious dinner.
An intriguing island home to top-class resorts and untouched natural landscapes, Borneo holidays will thrill even the most well-travelled visitors.

Weather in Borneo
Borneo is hot and humid all year round with average temperatures hovering around 29°C.
The island is driest from March - October. July and August are the most popular time to visit (as baby turtles start to hatch), whilst October offers some of the best scuba diving conditions.
March - May is a good time to visit - it's 'shoulder-season' so there are fewer visitors, hotels often offer discounted rates, and the weather is generally very good. It's also a good time for wildlife spotting.
The winter months see much more rainfall than the summer.
January is the rainiest month and best avoided, as the animals seek shelter in the dense forest and high winds and thunderstorms can make it difficult to visit the island's more rural areas.
